Holiday makers get £6,900 from First Choice for Holiday Sickness
A disgruntled mother from Scotland has described how her baby daughter became seriously ill whilst abroad on a holiday operated by First Choice. Debbie Middleton from Aberdeen, Scotland went on a family holiday to the Algarve, Portugal back in May 2014. Debbie, along with her husband and 3 kids stayed at the Holiday Village Resort, Algarve which is ran by First Choice Holidays. Debbie’s youngest child Emily became very unwell during the trip after eating food directly off a mouldy place mat in the hotel restaurant. Poor Emily needed medical assistance for a further 4 weeks after arriving home, as a result of the nightmare holiday. Debbie has stated that all members of her family apart from 1 fell ill during the holiday.
The ordeal took place during May 2014, on what was designed to be a relaxing family break. Debbie has described how Emily was the first member of the family to fall: “I bought a lovely new dress to wear during the holiday, however, one night I picked up Emily and lots of horrible green slime started to leak from her nappy”. “Emily was so poorly, everything she attempted to eat, just went straight through her”. Little Emily wasn’t the only member of the family who suffered from this travel related bug. Debbie, her husband and 1 of her other children also experienced what turned out to be a serious bout of food poisoning. Debbie’s child Ben stated; “The night times were the worst, we all stayed in one room and had to run past each other to get to the toilet”.
Debbie made a complaint to First Choice but they failed to acknowledge her concerns, this prompted her to seek assistance from solicitors. This course of action proved successful for Debbie and her family. They have just recently received a compensation pay-out of £6,900 from First Choice Holidays who accepted full liability for the illness outbreak.
