Solicitors’ have added to the growing number of successful holiday sickness claim settlements for clients. The latest case involves a young woman whose break with pals in Tunisia was interrupted by a nasty gastric bug.
The claimant, a 20-year-old was on a break with three friends.
The client received a holiday sickness settlement of £1,500.
Miss E-S was visiting the Houda Golf & Beach Club Hotel in Skanes, on Tunisia’s north-east coast. She arrived there with three friends on 27 May 2015 and on the fourth day of the break, she began to feel ill. The symptoms included:
This put an end to any fun and relaxation and she found herself bed-bound for the rest of the holiday and once back home, taking her total days spent ill to 11.
Solicitors contacted the tour operator for this trip to Tunisia, Jet 2, because Jet 2 are held responsible for the hotel’s food preparation negligence. It’s up to Jet 2, or any tour operator, to ensure that they send British holidaymakers to a resort which will take a robust attitude to hygiene and food preparation, making sure they work to prevent food poisoning cases which can spoil a vacation. Jet 2 know that they have this moral and legal responsibility, so this was a simple case to prove and bring to a satisfactory resolution for our client.
The hotel was found to have indeed failed to prepare and store food in such a way as to keep it safe from bacteria that might cause stomach problems. Miss E-L’s summer break for 2015 was effectively ruined, but she was justly compensated with £1,500. That settlement could be put towards the cost of another holiday, to try and have the pleasant experience which the claimant was denied in Tunisia.
