Family’s holiday ruined after severe Holiday sickness whilst on holiday in 3* hotel in Bulgaria.

David and Beverley Girgan, from Northallerton, their two children along with Beverley’s mother travelled to the three-star Hotel in August 2015 for a relaxing family break. Little did they know this would be the ‘holiday from hell’ when the whole family fell ill with a severe holiday sickness.

As their holiday came to an end, the two children began to suffer diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach cramps.

The rest of the family began to suffer the same symptoms on their final day at the hotel and continued to suffer with the symptoms on their return to the UK. Tests carried out by their GP confirmed they were suffering from holiday sickness caused by Cryptosporidium, a parasite that can cause extreme gastric illness; one of the most common causes of food poisoning.

Cryptosporidium is common among international travellers when food and drink has been contaminated with human or animal faecal matter.

The Girgan, both had to take time off work due to the symptoms they were suffering from and the children missed the first week of the new school term. The family has now instructed specialist holiday sickness lawyers.
